Harding Falls to Arkansas-Monticello in Season Opener – Harding College Athletics

MONTICELLO, Ark. – Harding’s women suffered a 76-71 loss to Arkansas-Monticello Saturday at Steelman Fieldhouse.
Harding (0-1, 0-1) trailed for much of the first half and 44-34 at halftime. The Lady Bisons rallied to outscore the Blossoms 24-13 in the third quarter and led 58-57 entering the fourth.
UAM broke a tie with a 3-pointer from Dezirae King giving the Blossoms a 69-66 lead with 3:30 left. It started a 6-0 run from which Harding never recovered.
Newcomers Hannah Collins and Hawley led Harding with 17 points each. Kennedy Cooper had 11 points and 10 rebounds, her fifth career double-double.
Mackenzie Tillman of Arkansas-Monticello led all scorers with 22 points.
The Blossoms (1-1, 1-1) made 11 3-pointers Saturday after shooting 18% from 3-point range in their season opener.
Arkansas-Monticello made six first-half 3-pointers and 12 of 14 free throws in the first half.
The Blossoms scored only 30 points in their 63-30 loss to Arkansas Tech on Thursday, but passed that number early in the second quarter Saturday.
Harding’s next action is Monday against Arkansas Tech in Russellville.
