On Sunday, Nov. 8, just after 11 a.m., according to law enforcement, a Honda Accord, driven by Dacey Glenn Grice, 31, veered off the roadway near Sharer Road and hit Marquis Fishburn, 31.
Though currently at Tallahassee Community College (TCC) to complete his GED, Fishburn was a resident of Monticello, having attended school in both Jefferson County and Leon County. He was a brother, son and father.
After Grice hit Fishburn, he kept driving, going through the parking lots of two businesses before finally stopping. Police said witnesses told Grice that he had hit Fishburn, but he drove away anyway.
Fishburn was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
After an investigation and consultation with the State Attorney’s Office, the Tallahassee Police Department (TPD) developed probable cause to charge Grice.
Grice was taken into custody by TPD with assistance from the United States Marshal Service and transported to the Leon County Detention Facility.
Grice has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident with death, vehicular homicide and driving while license suspended or revoked.
Funeral services for Fishburn will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 21, in Bethpage Cemetery, Wacissa. Viewing is from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Friday, Nov. 20, at Bethpage M.B. Church. For the full obituary, see page 7.
