MONTICELLO, Iowa – The Monticello Ward School District announced this morning that it has received a state waiver of distance learning due to COVID-19.
The district filed for the exemption earlier this week because assembly had risen sharply in Monticello and across Jones County. At that time, more than 140 students from the district were out "for COVID reasons".
At this point, the district also announced that it would temporarily switch to online learning today and Friday, November 13, while its application was being reviewed.

The waiver, approved by the Iowa Department of Education, allows the district to use online learning until November 24th.
"We will be closely monitoring public health data in Monticello for the next two weeks and hope to be able to resume personal learning on November 30th," Superintendent Brian Jaeger said in an announcement.
